Hip replacement surgery for Márcio: covering what insurance won't
After osteoarthritis in the right knee, Márcio was cleared for hip replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Márcio was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in August. The surgeon at Saint Joseph Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,700, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,350 short.
my son has been in and out of Saint Joseph Hospital since August. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,700 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Márcio struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Márcio won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
