Hip replacement surgery for Lanre: covering what insurance won't
Lanre needs hip replacement surgery at Ikeja Regional Medical Center and the family is $550 short of the hospital's estimate.

In June I was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair. My surgeon at Ikeja Regional Medical Center recommended hip replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for October. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $790, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $550 short.
Doctors at Ikeja Regional Medical Center told me a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without hip replacement surgery. I work as a care assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $790 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a care assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $550 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $420
• Travel and lodging for the family: $50
• Post-operative medication: $80
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Thinking of you. Shared it with a few friends. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. God bless.
hope it all works out, Lanre. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
Sending strength, Lanre. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. All the best.
Stay strong. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My husband and I read this together. Greetings from San Antonio
