Hip replacement surgery for Júlia: covering what insurance won't
After a benign brain tumor, Júlia was cleared for hip replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Júlia was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in August. The surgeon at Ribeirão Preto Regional Medical Center recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,900, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,950 short.
my mother has been in and out of Ribeirão Preto Regional Medical Center since August. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,900 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Júlia struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Júlia won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
