Hip replacement surgery for Jamal: covering what insurance won't
After osteoarthritis in the right knee, Jamal was cleared for hip replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Jamal was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in May. The surgeon at Lyon Regional Medical Center recommended hip replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,550, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,100 short.
my father has been in and out of Lyon Regional Medical Center since May. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,550 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Jamal struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Jamal won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
