Hip replacement surgery for Francisco: covering what insurance won't
Francisco needs hip replacement surgery at Cali Community Hospital and the family is $1,450 short of the hospital's estimate.

In July I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Cali Community Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,400, and after what my insurance will pay, I'm still $1,450 short.
Doctors at Cali Community Hospital told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without hip replacement surgery. I work as a call-centre agent, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,400 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a call-centre agent have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 5 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $630
• Physiotherapy sessions: $130
• Hospital stay (2 nights): $690

Hope things get better soon, Francisco. Shared this with my family. Love from Mukono
Keep going. Wishing Francisco a smooth procedure and a full recovery. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care.
Rooting for you, Francisco. This could happen to any of us. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Love from Bangkok.
