Hip replacement surgery for Fábio: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled hip replacement surgery in December is out of reach without help covering $2,200 of the cost.

Fábio was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in September. The surgeon at São Paulo Orthopedic Institute recommended hip replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,750, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $2,200 short.
my father has been in and out of São Paulo Orthopedic Institute since September. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Fábio struggles with daily life and can't drive. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Fábio won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $2,200 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $990
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $560
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $165
• Post-operative medication: $90
• Physiotherapy sessions: $280
• Travel and lodging for the family: $115
Thanks for being kind about this.
