Hip replacement surgery for Clémence: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled hip replacement surgery in October is out of reach without help covering $2,550 of the cost.

In August I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Toronto Community Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for October. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $3,400, and after what the public health scheme will pay, I'm still $2,550 short.
Doctors at Toronto Community Hospital told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without hip replacement surgery. I work as a seamstress, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $3,400 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a seamstress have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
