Hip replacement surgery for Axel: covering what insurance won't

Axel was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal in August. The surgeon at Leeds University Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $4,200, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $3,350 short.
my son has been in and out of Leeds University Hospital since August. The doctors say a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $4,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Axel struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Axel won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
