Hip replacement surgery for Alexei: covering what insurance won't
After a benign brain tumor, Alexei was cleared for hip replacement surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Alexei was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in March. The surgeon at Yekaterinburg Orthopedic Institute recommended hip replacement surgery, and He is scheduled for June. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,750, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $1,300 short.
my brother has been in and out of Yekaterinburg Orthopedic Institute since March. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Alexei struggles with daily life and can't drive. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Alexei won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,300 goes:
• Travel and lodging for the family: $80
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $105
• Post-operative medication: $120
• Physiotherapy sessions: $230
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $765
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
