Zenaida was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in June. The surgeon at Manila Community Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,100, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $650 short. my wife has been in and out of Manila Community Hospital since June. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,100 is more than we can find. While we wait, Zenaida struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Zenaida won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
