Wunmi was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in June. The surgeon at Saint Catherine Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,250, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $1,000 short. my mother has been in and out of Saint Catherine Hospital since June. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Wunmi struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Wunmi won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $1,000 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $410 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $360 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $75 • Post-operative medication: $45 • Physiotherapy sessions: $60 • Travel and lodging for the family: $50 Glad we found this place.
