Help Waylon keep the Open Hands Pantry pantry stocked
Help keep a free food pantry open for neighbors in need in Birmingham.
🇬🇧 Birmingham, England, United Kingdom1,450 views
Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Thursday from the back of a community center. We started with 29 families, and now we feed 122 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 46% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 9 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Birmingham market and keep every receipt.
Each $45 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $2,550 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,000
• Refrigeration and electricity: $185
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,365
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Hang in there, Waylon. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in.
Rooting for you, Waylon. Great idea, hope you get there. I hope May is when things finally get easier.
Looking forward to the next update. Put this on a community board in Wiesbaden this morning. Greetings from Wiesbaden
