The heating account is 4 months behind. Vanessa received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on February unless $150 is paid. She had never been late before November's medical emergency.
Vanessa called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $25 first, which isn't available.
The household includes an elderly mother, and going through winter without heating isn't safe. We would also lose the ability to run the medical equipment at home.
