Taner won a place at the Istanbul Selective School but the family can't afford the uniform, books and laptop required.

Istanbul
I earned a place in the first year of senior school at the Istanbul Selective School, and I couldn't be prouder. The school has a long list of things I need, including a laptop for the graphic design course, and a uniform. My mother works two jobs, and the list costs $300, which is more than we have. I love graphic design and want to become an architect. A laptop will let me do coursework at home instead of waiting for library hours. I'll take care of everything you give me and I promise to work hard. Items on the list: laptop, uniform, shoes, textbooks, calculator and a bag. Where the $300 goes: • Laptop: $175 • School uniform and shoes: $40 • Textbooks and workbooks: $35 • Calculator, stationery and a school bag: $50 Thanks for being kind about this.

Updates from Taner

  1. Update from Istanbul: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 16% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Small update. $49 so far, I met with the school supplier and confirmed the amounts.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 2% now ($7). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward calculator, stationery and a school bag.
