When my hours were cut in half in February, Solène fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $3,100. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by May, the family must leave. There are a teenager still in school at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
