Robbert was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery in July. The surgeon at Amsterdam Regional Medical Center recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,500, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $6,000 short. my son has been in and out of Amsterdam Regional Medical Center since July. The doctors say endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,500 is more than we can find. While we wait, Robbert struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. During that time Robbert won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $6,000 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,100 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $2,550 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $340 • Post-operative medication: $250 • Physiotherapy sessions: $610 • Travel and lodging for the family: $150 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot. - Iris

  • Sending good thoughts, Iris. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. After 12 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care

    • Keep going. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Wish I lived closer to Dar es Salaam so I could bring a meal. Thinking of Amsterdam.

      • Sending love, Iris. I hope things turn around soon. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Greetings from Southampton
