Narayanganj
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Sunday Shelf every Saturday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 21 families, and now we feed 89 each week. Donations have dropped by about 47% this summer, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 11 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Narayanganj market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $450 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $210 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $165 • Baby formula and diapers: $60 • Refrigeration and electricity: $15 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Rashed

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Rashed

    • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) is $210 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Good question.

  • best of luck, Rashed. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Put this on a community board in Dar es Salaam this morning. All the best

    • is there anything that isn't money that would help Rashed?

      • Hang in there, Rashed. Shared it with a few friends. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from Nashik.

        • Stay strong, Rashed. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'm in nursing myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you.

          • Hope this works out for you. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Thinking of Narayanganj.
