Help Rafaela keep the Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry stocked

The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in São Paulo is running low just as demand rises; $1,050 will stock it for 6 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Monday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 15 families, and now we feed 175 each week. Donations have dropped by about 38% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the São Paulo market and keep every receipt. Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $1,050 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $570 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $310 • Baby formula and diapers: $115 • Refrigeration and electricity: $55 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

Updates from Rafaela

  1. Update from São Paulo: I made the first payment toward refrigeration and electricity. We're at 10% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Sure. The biggest one is rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale), $570. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Thanks for asking.
