Paloma was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in August. The surgeon at San Diego Orthopedic Institute recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $4,450, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $3,350 short.
my mother has been in and out of San Diego Orthopedic Institute since August. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $4,450 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Paloma struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Paloma won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
