Nnewi
Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Monday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 28 families, and now we feed 255 each week. Donations have dropped by about 50% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 6 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Nnewi market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $400 goes: • Baby formula and diapers: $50 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $270 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $80 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Updates from Obiageli

  1. Quick update: $155 raised so far (39%). I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. We're at 14% thanks to 3 of you. the plan for rice, beans, flour and oil is now scheduled. More news soon.

  3. Update from Nnewi: the plan for baby formula and diapers is now scheduled. We're at 3% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  • Hang in there, Obiageli. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day.
