Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Tuesday from the back of a community center. We started with 13 families, and now we feed 203 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 40% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Kaduna market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $200 goes:
• Baby formula and diapers: $45
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $95
• Refrigeration and electricity: $60
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Thinking of you and your family, Nneka. I hope things turn around soon. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day
Thanks for sharing this, Nneka. Great idea, hope you get there. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
Good luck, Nneka. Your post was clear and honest. Thinking of Kaduna
Keep going, Nneka. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Thinking of Kaduna.
