Meenakshi was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in June. The surgeon at Mumbai Orthopedic Institute recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $920, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $550 short. my daughter has been in and out of Mumbai Orthopedic Institute since June. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $920 is more than we can find. While we wait, Meenakshi struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Meenakshi won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
