In August I was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections. My surgeon at Quezon City Orthopedic Institute recommended hip replacement surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,300, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $1,150 short. Doctors at Quezon City Orthopedic Institute told me a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without hip replacement surgery. I work as a delivery rider, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,300 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a delivery rider have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $1,150 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $640 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $120 • Post-operative medication: $75 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $220 • Physiotherapy sessions: $95 Thank you so much.

Updates from Allan

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($458 in total) the plan for pre-operative tests and imaging is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Surgeon and anesthesia fees is $640 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Fair thing to want to know.

      • Sending strength, Allan. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home

        • Thinking of you and your family. Your post was clear and honest. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
