In August I was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections. My surgeon at Badagry General Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,450, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $1,100 short.
Doctors at Badagry General Hospital told me gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. I work as a warehouse packer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,450 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a warehouse packer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $65
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $530
• Travel and lodging for the family: $35
• Post-operative medication: $35
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $435
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
