I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying an electrical engineering diploma at Uberlândia University, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a warehouse packer to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $650. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a first-class average, and my department head has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Uberlândia University bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $650 goes: • Exam and lab fees: $40 • Textbooks and materials: $40 • Final term tuition: $570 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Joaquim.

      • Exam and lab fees is $40 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Thanks for asking.

    • Thinking of you. Study hard! My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Greetings from Coyoacán.
