Kikuyu
I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a teaching qualification at Kikuyu University, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $900. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.9 average, and my academic advisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Kikuyu University bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $900 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $330 • Final term tuition: $490 • Exam and lab fees: $45 • Textbooks and materials: $35 Thank you for reading my story.

Updates from Macharia

  1. Update from Kikuyu: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 65% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($187 in total) the plan for exam and lab fees is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 22% now ($202). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward outstanding tuition balance.
