I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a pharmacy diploma at Nairobi State College, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $400. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a top-ten-percent average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees. Where the $400 goes: • Textbooks and materials: $45 • Outstanding tuition balance: $175 • Final term tuition: $180 Every share and every dollar helps. - Awino

  • Sending good thoughts, Awino. Good luck with the exams, you've got this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Love from Fort Worth!

    • Keep going. This could happen to any of us. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Greetings from Erie!

      • Hang in there. Good luck with the exams, you've got this. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Take care.
