Johannesburg
Mbali is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a teaching qualification at the Johannesburg Institute of Technology, and is one semester away from graduating. He has worked as a barista to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,050. The registrar has said Mbali can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Mbali has a 3.6 average, and an academic advisor has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Mbali would lose his place and scholarship eligibility. Mbali isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student. Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees. Where the $1,050 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $370 • Final term tuition: $610 • Exam and lab fees: $70 Thank you so much. - Christo
