Manuel is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a master's in public health at the Medellín Institute of Technology, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a barista to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $700.
The registrar has said Manuel can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Manuel has a distinction average, and an academic advisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Manuel would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Manuel isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $700 goes:
• Textbooks and materials: $65
• Exam and lab fees: $50
• Outstanding tuition balance: $585
