Malathi was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in January. The surgeon at Saint Francis Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and She is scheduled for March. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,900, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $950 short.
my sister has been in and out of Saint Francis Hospital since January. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,900 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Malathi struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Malathi won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $950 goes:
• Travel and lodging for the family: $80
• Post-operative medication: $40
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $350
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $400
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $80
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.
