Los Angeles
Lucas was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in April. The surgeon at Los Angeles Community Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and He is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $11,750, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $8,300 short. my father has been in and out of Los Angeles Community Hospital since April. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $11,750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Lucas struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Lucas won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $8,300 goes: • Post-operative medication: $165 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,300 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $3,250 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $670 • Physiotherapy sessions: $915 Thanks for being kind about this. - Everett
