Lourdes is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a nursing degree at Austin Polytechnic, and is one semester away from graduating. She has worked as a library assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $4,250.
The registrar has said Lourdes can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Lourdes has a 3.9 average, and a department head has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Lourdes would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Lourdes isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Austin Polytechnic bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
