Kenji was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in June. The surgeon at Saint Luke Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $6,250, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $3,700 short. my son has been in and out of Saint Luke Hospital since June. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $6,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Kenji struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Kenji won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.       The list at the bottom is the whole picture. surgeon and anesthesia fees is the biggest at $2,400. Good question.
