Help Kazuo keep the Open Hands Pantry pantry stocked
Help keep a free food pantry open for families facing hunger in Kawasaki.
🇯🇵 Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan1,210 views
Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Saturday from the back of the parish hall. We started with 20 families, and now we feed 266 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 58% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 15 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Kawasaki market and keep every receipt.
Each $30 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $2,000 goes:
• Baby formula and diapers: $510
• Refrigeration and electricity: $150
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,340
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
