Help Kato keep his home - 5 months behind on rent

After a cut in working hours, Kato is 5 months behind on rent and has a final eviction notice from the landlord.

When the textile factory closed in December, Kato fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Sunday a final eviction notice was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $600. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by March, the family must leave. There are two young children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Kato has started working two part-time jobs, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done. Where the $600 goes: • Late fees and court costs: $25 • First month of rent as a buffer: $125 • Rent arrears (5 months): $450 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

Updates from Nakato

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($72 in total) the plan for first month of rent as a buffer is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. 6% there. I made the first payment toward rent arrears. Thank you.
