Jin-ah was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly in December. The surgeon at Mapo Community Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and She is scheduled for March. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $8,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $4,050 short. my wife has been in and out of Mapo Community Hospital since December. The doctors say a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $8,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Jin-ah struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Jin-ah won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
