Ismael was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in August. The oncology team at Manila University Hospital has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 3 weeks. Ismael is 49, worked as a bakery worker until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Manila University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,000 goes: • Household costs while unable to work: $320 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $100 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,580 Thank you for reading my story. - Gilbert

Updates from Gilbert

  1. Update from Manila: I met with the treatment center and confirmed the amounts. We're at 9% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Wanted to say thank you properly. 12% funded and the plan for nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team is now scheduled.

  • I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. After 19 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Jacksonville

        • Good luck. Get well soon. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.
