Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Tuesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 23 families, and now we feed 131 each week. Donations have dropped by about 32% this summer, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Leeds market and keep every receipt. Each $40 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $1,850 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $600 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $480 • Baby formula and diapers: $440 • Refrigeration and electricity: $330 Thank you so much.

  • Sending love, Isla. Hope you get there. My husband and I read this together.

    • More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Leeds.

      • hang in there, Isla. Looking forward to the next update. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. All the best.
