Henrique was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in September. The surgeon at Saint Matthew Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and He is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,450, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $2,400 short. my son has been in and out of Saint Matthew Hospital since September. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,450 is more than we can find. While we wait, Henrique struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Henrique won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $2,400 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,100 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $710 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $165 • Post-operative medication: $120 • Physiotherapy sessions: $220 • Travel and lodging for the family: $85 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
