A 10-day notice to quit arrived last week. Guo needs $4,250 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Houston.

When my hours were cut in half in September, Guo fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $4,250. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, the family must leave. There are 1 children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Guo has started working evenings as a cleaner, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $4,250 goes: • Rent arrears (5 months): $3,150 • First month of rent as a buffer: $890 • Late fees and court costs: $210 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Hua

Updates from Hua

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($1,939 in total) the plan for rent arrears is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. We're at 19% thanks to 21 of you. I met with the landlord and confirmed the amounts. More news soon.
