Help Grace keep the Neighbors' Pantry pantry stocked

The Neighbors' Pantry pantry in Los Angeles is running low just as demand rises; $2,250 will stock it for 11 weeks.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Neighbors' Pantry every Sunday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 14 families, and now we feed 338 each week. Donations have dropped by about 37% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Los Angeles market and keep every receipt. Each $50 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $2,250 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,500 • Refrigeration and electricity: $260 • Baby formula and diapers: $490 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Grace

  • Rooting for you. More neighborhoods should do this. Put this on a community board in Nashik this morning. God bless.

    • Thinking of you, Grace. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. It's not much but it's yours. Thinking of Los Angeles.

      • So sorry you're going through this, Grace. Great idea, hope you get there. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.

It's all in the list in the story. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) is the big one at $1,500, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Good question.

              • Best of luck, Grace. Shared it with a few friends. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day.
