The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Porto Alegre is running low just as demand rises; $1,050 will stock it for 12 weeks.

Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Saturday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 20 families, and now we feed 387 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 30% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 7 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Porto Alegre market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $1,050 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $600
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $145
• Baby formula and diapers: $210
• Refrigeration and electricity: $95
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
