Fábio was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in June. The surgeon at Fortaleza University Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and He is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,100, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,850 short. my father has been in and out of Fortaleza University Hospital since June. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,100 is more than we can find. While we wait, Fábio struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks.
