Onitsha
Ebuka is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying an accounting degree at the Onitsha Institute of Technology, and is one term away from graduating. He has worked as a tutor to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $650. The registrar has said Ebuka can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Ebuka has a distinction average, and a department head has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Ebuka would lose his place and scholarship eligibility. Ebuka isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student. The payment will go directly to the the Onitsha Institute of Technology bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $650 goes: β€’ Outstanding tuition balance: $200 β€’ Final term tuition: $340 β€’ Exam and lab fees: $50 β€’ Textbooks and materials: $60 Thanks for reading all this. - Sade

  • Looking forward to the next update. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of Onitsha.

    • Shared it with a few friends. Sent it to 6 people at work.

      • sending love, Sade. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn. My neighbor had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. All the best.

        • Sending strength, Sade. I hope things turn around soon. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. All the best.

          • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 13 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything
