Dennis was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in May. The surgeon at Embakasi University Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and He is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,600, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $950 short. my father has been in and out of Embakasi University Hospital since May. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,600 is more than we can find. While we wait, Dennis struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 4 weeks. During that time Dennis won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $950 goes: • Post-operative medication: $40 • Travel and lodging for the family: $35 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $600 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $210 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $65 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
