Débora was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in August. The surgeon at Niterói Community Hospital recommended a craniotomy, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,350, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,400 short.
my wife has been in and out of Niterói Community Hospital since August. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without a craniotomy. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,350 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Débora struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Débora won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Débora.
Sure. The biggest one is pre-operative tests and imaging, $145. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Happy to explain more.
