Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Saturday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 11 families, and now we feed 176 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 52% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 15 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Mar del Plata market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $300 goes:
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $115
• Refrigeration and electricity: $55
• Baby formula and diapers: $130
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Thinking of you, Cristina. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 26 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care.
Wishing you the best, Cristina. Shared this with my family. I'm in farming myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Love from Nagpur
Hope things get better soon, Cristina. Shared it with a few friends. It's not much but it's yours. God bless.
hope things get better soon, Cristina. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My husband and I read this together. God bless.
Sending strength, Cristina. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day.
