Cláudio was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in May. The surgeon at Guarulhos University Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and He is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,600, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $800 short. my son has been in and out of Guarulhos University Hospital since May. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,600 is more than we can find. While we wait, Cláudio struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Cláudio won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
