Help Carter keep the Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry stocked

The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Oakland is running low just as demand rises; $2,950 will stock it for 6 weeks.

Oakland

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Monday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 16 families, and now we feed 258 each week. Donations have dropped by about 42% this winter, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 20 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Oakland market and keep every receipt. Each $35 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $2,950 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,550 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $970 • Baby formula and diapers: $220 • Refrigeration and electricity: $210 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Updates from Carter

Good news. Because of your gifts ($77 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely. - Carter
Wanted to say thank you properly. 2% funded and I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts.
