Beatriz was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in July. The surgeon at São Paulo University Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for October. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $3,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $2,450 short. my daughter has been in and out of São Paulo University Hospital since July. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $3,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Beatriz struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks.
